The Seattle Times: At the opening of its new retail store in Boston, Microsoft unveiled a new logo. Although Microsoft frequently changed its logo in the 70s and 80s, this is the first time it has updated its corporate branding since 1987.
While the old logo featured an italicized, bold version of the company name, the new version is not italicized and is in a lighter font. It also features an orange, green, blue and yellow Windows symbol.
According to Microsoft’s Jeff Hansen, the new logo is meant to “signal the heritage but also signal the future — a newness and freshness.” The company will launch updated versions of many of its key products–including Windows, Windows Phone and Office–in the coming months.
