Computerworld: Rackspace has announced the availability of a new tool called Cloud Monitoring. Based on technology acquired from Cloudkick, Cloud Monitoring comes with an API that customers can use to monitor their applications in a variety of private, public or hybrid cloud computing environments. Enterprises could even use it to build their own dashboards.

“This is something that doesn’t just work at Rackspace, but it works across services that run anywhere. So it could be one of our competitors or on-premise. Everything that has an IP address we can monitor,” explained Rackspace CTO John Engates. “We want to make sure customers have the freedom, choice and flexibility to do what they need to do on their own terms, and not be dictated to.”
