Tim O’Reilly: The Future of Technology

Noted tech observer Tim O’Reilly’s new book, WTF? What’s the Future and Why It’s Up to Us, is an in-depth look at the potentials and perils of today’s array of remarkable emerging technologies. As described on his publisher’s web site, “The core of the book’s call to action is an exhortation to businesses to DO MORE with technology rather than just using it to cut costs and enrich their shareholders.”

I spoke with O’Reilly about the following topics:

1) The effect of AI and automation on the job market is controversial. Some are pessimistic, see a lot of job losses. You seem optimistic.

2) Technology and income inequality: will income inequality be worsened by the advance of technology?

3) What can the individual do? Not in the macro sense, but in our own lives?
