Wall Street Journal: In the most recent quarter, phone maker Nokia sold more than 1 million of its Lumia smartphones, which are based on Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system. Despite that good news, overall sales for the company were down 31 percent for the period. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said the company hopes to use its Windows Phone handsets to improve its market share, and it will launch the Lumia phones in China and Latin America in the early part of this year.
“While we progressed in the right direction in 2011, we still have a tremendous amount to accomplish in 2012 in order to properly position Nokia for sustainable long-term growth,” said Elop. “We are now in the heart of our transition.”
