Microsoft Halts New Windows Phone Apps

InformationWeek: Microsoft has temporarily stopped publishing new apps for the Window Phone platform due to a glitch with its security certificates. The same problem has prevented some Windows Phone 7.5 users from downloading certain apps, including The New York Times app, WhatsApp, and Bing Translator. “We’ve run into an issue with the digital certificates used to sign apps, and this is preventing some phones from installing some apps published during the last couple of days,” explained Microsoft’s Mazhar Mohammed.

Mohammed said Windows Phone users should not attempt to uninstall any apps that aren’t working properly. He also noted that the majority of Windows Phone apps are downloading and functioning as they should. The company is working to solve the problem.
