The Register: IBM has announced that it will buy Flash maker Texas Memory Systems for an undisclosed sum. The 100-person firm manufactures solid state memory, which is used in its RamSan solid state memory arrays and PCIe cards. Texas Memory had earlier stated that it hoped to be bought out by a larger tech company.
Speaking about the deal, Texas Memory CEO Holly Frost said, “IBM understands the positive and dramatic impact that solid state technology can have on storage and server infrastructures, and once the acquisition is complete we look forward to advancing the technology even further. With the global reach of IBM, we expect to grow the engineering staff and product lines much faster than we could before.”
Many observers expect that other large tech firms will also be looking to acquire solid state memory manufacturers in the near future.
