Wall Street Journal: Website hosting provider GoDaddy says its service outage earlier this week was actually caused by networking problems, not a hack attack. Despite the claims of responsibility from a hacker who alleged affiliation with the hacktivist group Anonymous, interim CEO Scott Wagner said the outage “was not caused by external influences. It was not a ‘hack’ and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS).” He explained that the problems were actually caused by a “series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables.”

This is the second time this month that assertions made by individuals who claimed to be part of the Anonymous group have proven false. The first was a leak of Apple IDs that a hacker claimed came from the FBI. The IDs were later proven to have come from an app publisher’s database.
