Gartner: Worldwide Tablet Sales to Nearly Double This Year

The Seattle Times: A new report from market research firm Gartner predicts that tablet sales will hit 118.9 million million this year. That’s a 98 percent increase from the 60 million sales last year.

The company believes Apple’s iPad will continue to dominate with 61.4 percent of the market. Devices running Google’s Android will account for another 31.9 percent of the market. And although some enterprises are eagerly awaiting the arrival of tablets running Windows 8, Gartner says Microsoft will capture just 4.1 percent of the market in 2012, climbing to 11.8 percent by 2016.
