BBC News: Facebook users in New Zealand are testing a new feature that allows them to pay a small fee to flag particular posts, making it more likely that friends will see them. The social network is trying out several different options, and prices for the tested feature range from free to around $2. “We’re constantly testing new features across the site,” said a spokesperson. “This particular test is simply to gauge people’s interest in this method of sharing with their friends.”

No word on when or if the pay-to-promote feature will become available in other countries.

Industry observers say it’s likely that Facebook will continue to look for new ways to generate revenue as it becomes a publicly traded company.
