eWeek: A new report from online job board Dice.com suggests that while IT certifications may not help that much when you’re looking for a traditional tech job, they could be very helpful when looking for a contracting gig. In a survey, 40 percent of technology consultants said that their certifications helped them get a job, compared to about 30 percent of more conventionally employed IT staffers.

According to Dice, the top certifications for IT professionals include Project Management Professional (PMP), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), Cisco Certified Network Associate and Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSP).
