Apple CEO Scoffs at Tablet-Laptop Hybrid

CNN: Don’t expect Apple to start making tablet-laptop hybrids anytime soon. CEO Tim Cook made it clear that the company doesn’t plan to combine the iPad with the Macbook. “Anything can be forced to converge, but the problem is that products are about tradeoffs, and you begin to make tradeoffs to the point where what you have left at the end of the day doesn’t please anyone,” said Cook. “You can converge a toaster and refrigerator, but those things are probably not going to be pleasing to the user.”

Many interpreted Cook’s comments as a jab at Microsoft, whose Windows 8 operating system will run on both tablets and laptops. Microsoft spokesman Frank Shaw jabbed back with a Tweet that read, “It’s not a toaster/fridge. It’s a toaster/oven. Those seem pretty popular. Just saying.”
