ZDNet: The hacktivist group Anonymous has launched DDOS attacks that shut down the websites for the U.S. Department of Justice, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Motion Picture Association of America, and Universal Music. They also claimed or threatened to launch attacks against several other sites, but those were operating normally at the time the article was posted. In its Twitter feed, the group boasted that this was “the largest on scale attack ever.”

Anonymous says it is protesting the takedown of filesharing site Megaupload, along with the arrests of several people associated with the site. In addition, the group is going after organizations that support the SOPA anti-piracy legislation.
