Computerworld: The governments of Pakistan and Bangladesh have blocked their citizens from accessing Google’s YouTube video sharing service. The two countries said that they asked Google to block a controversial video that they found offensive because of its depiction of the prophet Muhammad. When Google did not comply with the request, they blocked all access to YouTube.
While Google has not blocked the video in Pakistan or Bangladesh, it has blocked access to it from Egypt, Libya, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In some of those countries, the video is illegal, and in some coutnries Google chose to block it because of the local situation. The trailer led to protests in Egypt, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Indonesia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Libyan protesters killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya.
