U.S. to Clear Google’s Deal

Wall Street Journal: Unnamed sources tell the Wall Street Journal that the U.S. Justice Department is ready to approve Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. Official word could come as soon as next week. However, anti-trust enforcers plan to monitor Google’s handling of Motorola’s patents carefully–making sure that it offers fair and reasonable licensing as promised.

Sources say that the Justice Department also plans to give the green light to a deal which saw a consortium of tech companies, including Microsoft, Apple and RIM, purchasing Nortel’s patent library.
