PCWorld: For months, Microsoft has been publicizing Windows 8’s “Metro” interface, but now the company has decided to drop the Metro name. Instead, the tile-based interface will be called the “Windows 8 style UI.”

Reports suggested the branding change may have been driven by the threat of a trademark lawsuit from German retailer Metro AG. However, Microsoft disputed that theory, saying, “We have used Metro style as a code name during the product development cycle across many of our product lines. As we get closer to launch and transition from industry dialog to a broad consumer dialog we will use our commercial names.”
