Microsoft Beats Forecasts on Revenue and Profit

The Seattle Times: Microsoft turned in its financials for its third fiscal quarter, and the company beat analyst expectations. It reported revenue of $17.41 billion, a 6 percent year-over-year increase. Earnings totaled $5.11 billion, or 60 cents per share, beating estimates of 57 cents per share.

Business sales accounted for much of the company’s success during the quarter. Windows revenue climbed 4 percent as more companies purchased Windows 7 and new PCs, and the Business division saw revenue climb 9 percent. Server and Tools revenue jumped up 14 percent. However, Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices division saw sales plummet 16 percent.
