Intel Updates Xeon Line of Server Chips

The Register: Intel is dramatically extending its line of Xeon server processors. On Monday, it unveiled 17 new “Sandy Bridge” E5 processors that join the already extensive Xeon line. As a result, manufacturers and end users have more configuration choices than ever before.

Many of the new chips are aimed at the high-performance computing (HPC) market. “We think the E5-2400 will be the preferred product for the HPC market,” said IBM’s Dylan Larson, who also highlighted the the E5-4600 as “killer for HPC.”
