eWeek: Although Intel remained number on in the chip market in 2011, AMD made some gains, IDC reports. Intel captured 80.1 percent of the market, a 0.6 percent decline over 2010. However, because processor shipments grew 3.6 percent and average selling prices climbed 9 percent, Intel’s revenue jumped up 13.9 percent to hit $41 billion.

AMD clawed its way to a 19.7 percent market share, a 0.7 percent increase from 2010. Via Technologies had the rest of the market share, just 0.2 percent.

IDC forecasts that microprocessor shipments will grow 5.1 percent in 2012.
