eWeek: IBM has unveiled a new mainframe system that it says is the most powerful ever. The zEnterprise EC12 mainframe server “has 25 percent more performance and 50 percent more capacity than its predecessor,” explained IBM’s David Balog. The zEC12 also speeds analytics workloads by 30 percent over previous mainframes.

The new mainframe offers advanced security with features like the Crypto Express4S, a tamper-resistant cryptographic co-processor. In addition, the zEC12 includes IBM zAware, which analyzes system capabilities in real time. It’s also the first IBM mainframe to include solid state internal memory, the first not to require a raised floor, and the first to utilize transactional memory technology.
