Bloomberg: According to Alliance@IBM, a group that has been working to organize IBM employees, the company has sent termination notices to more than 1,000 employees this week. The firings are part of what Big Blue calls “resource actions.” IBM’s Doug Shelton explained, “IBM is constantly rebalancing its workforce. That means reducing in some areas and hiring in others — based on shifts in technology and client demand. This allows IBM to remain competitive and relevant in an industry that is constantly changing.”

The job cuts amount to 0.2 percent of IBM’s global workforce, which included 433,362 employees at the end of last year. Workers who received the notices can apply for other positions within the company.
