TechCrunch: Social networking firm Meebo has confirmed that Google has purchased the company. Sources say that Google paid around $100 million for the firm and that many of Meebo’s former employees will become part of the Google+ team.

Meebo began life as a chat service but later focused on a social toolbar and ad platform service for website owners. As of last December, Meebo had 100 million monthly active users.
