Google Shifts Tack on Android

Wall Street Journal: Unnamed “people familiar with the matter” tell the Wall Street Journal that Google plans to work with multiple manufacturers to produce devices running the next version of Android and to sell those devices directly to consumers. That would give Google much more control over the design of Android smartphones and tablets, making it a little more like its chief mobile competitor, Apple.

One source says that Nexus smartphones running the next version of Android, codenamed Jelly Bean, will be available for purchase by November.
