GigaOm: Unnamed sources tell GigaOm that both Google and Microsoft will soon unveil infrastructure as a service (IaaS) offerings to compete more directly against Amazon’s EC2 cloud computing platform. Both companies currently offer platform as a service (PaaS) cloud offerings–Microsoft Azure and Google App Engine.

Although it hasn’t confirmed that it will unveil an IaaS, Microsoft has a cloud-related announcement scheduled for June 7. Google is also not confirming any IaaS plans, but sources say the new cloud service will launch before the end of the year.
