Google Didn’t Infringe on Oracle Patents, Jury Rules

FOX News: The jury deciding the patent infringement case brought by Oracle against Google has ruled that Android does not violate Java patents. Two weeks ago, the same jury found that Android did infringe on some Java copyrights, but they could not agree on whether Google’s use of the material constituted “fair use.” As a result of both findings, the trial will not proceed to a damages phase, and the judge has dismissed the jury.

Although this trial has ended, it doesn’t mean the war between the two companies is over. Google has filed for a mistrial on the copyright portion of the case, which could lead to a second trial on the same issues. In addition, the judge still needs to rule whether APIs can be copyrighted or not.
