eWeek: As part of its ongoing efforts to streamline its product lines, Google has announced that it will phase out several offerings that are “not having the impact we strive for.” Products and services on the chopping block include the Google Mini enterprise search appliance, the iGoogle personalized home page, the Google Talk Chatback webpage widget, Google Video and the Google Symbian search app. Some of the phased out services will be replaced by other services. For example, Google Talk Chatback will be replaced by the Meebo bar, and Google Video will be replaced by YouTube.

Google began the streamlining project when Larry Page took over as CEO of the company. He described the effort as putting “more wood behind fewer arrows.”
