Reuters: The European Commission is investigating allegations that Windows 8 will block users from selecting browsers other than Internet Explorer, but the commission’s Joaquin Almunia says Microsoft  has assured him that the operating system will allow browser choice. “In my personal talks with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer he has given me assurances that they will comply immediately regardless of the conclusion of the antitrust probe,” stated Almunia.

Several companies have charged that Microsoft is not providing alternative browsers with full access to the Windows 8 APIs. Almunia called the allegations a “very, very serious issue.”
