Computerworld: Security firm Prolexic says distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks against financial services firms tripled in the first quarter of the year. In addition, the average attack bandwidth increased from 5.2G bps to 6.1G bps. “The reduction in attack campaign duration, combined with an increase in mitigated bytes and packets, indicates that attackers are using shorter, stronger bursts of traffic to conduct DDOS campaigns,” the company said.

According to Prolexic, more than 70 percent of the traffic for these DDOS attacks originated in China.
