Cisco Acquires Israeli Video Software Firm NDS for $5 Billion

All Things D: Cisco has confirmed that it has purchased NDS for about $5 billion in cash, plus the assumption of debt. An Israeli firm, NDS specializes in software that securely delivers video and interactive content to set-top boxes.

Before the acquisition, rumors swirled that Cisco was getting out of the set-top box business. However, the company has used the purchase as a time to reaffirm its commitment to its Videoscape platform.
