China and U.S. to Co-Operate to Avoid Cyber Cold War

BBC: U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta met with China’s defense minister Liang Guanglie in Washington on Monday. Although China is generally considered the primary source of cyberattacks against the U.S., the two men pledged to work together to combat cyberattacks. “Because the United States and China have developed the technological capabilities in this arena, it’s extremely important that we work together to develop ways to avoid any miscalculation or misperception that could lead to a crisis in this area,” said Panetta.

For his part Guanglie downplayed China’s role in attacks against the U.S., saying, “I can hardly agree with the proposition that the cyberattacks directed to the United States are directly coming from China.”
