BBC Suffers Cyberattack Linked to Iran

Reuters: In a speech, BBC director-general Mark Thompson revealed that his network’s IT systems had become the target of a sophisticated cyberattack. In addition, someone has been attempting to jam the satellite feed for the BBC’s Persian service, and someone has been flooding the company’s phone networks with automated calls. Thompson did not direct accuse the Iranian government of the attacks, but said the circumstances were “self-evidently suspicious.” Thompson has also previously accused Iran of threatening BBC employees and their families.

People in Iran can only receive the BBC’s Persian feed if they own satellite receivers, which the Iranian government has outlawed.
