Cnet: According to a new report from Canaccord Genuity, Apple and Samsung together accounted for 108 percent of the mobile phone manufacturing industry’s second quarter profits. How is that possible? Research in Motion, Nokia, Motorola, and Sony all posted losses for the quarter; as a result, the industry’s total profits were less than Apple and Samsung’s combined profits.

Breaking it down further, Apple, which accounts for just 6.5 percent of handset sales, led with 71 percent of the industry’s operating profit. Samsung had the largest percentage of sales–25 percent–and 37 percent of industry profit.

HTC was the only other phone maker to post a profit in the quarter.
