BBC News: Microsoft researcher Terry Zink says that he has found evidence that Android smartphones are being used in botnets to send spam through Yahoo mail servers. “We’ve all heard the rumours,” Zink blogged. “But this is the first time I have seen it – a spammer has control of a botnet that lives on Android devices. These devices login to the user’s Yahoo Mail account and send spam.”

According to Zink, the affected devices are located primarily in Chile, Indonesia, Lebanon, Oman, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Ukraine, and Venezuela. He advises Android users to upgrade their OS, if possible, and to check the reviews before downloading new apps.
