Mirantis, a Mountain View, Calif.-based OpenStack systems integrator, today unveiled a new offering aimed at businesses that want to build private or public clouds using the open source platform and launch them quickly.
The company’s newly-announced Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Assist Services for OpenStack helps organizations roll their own clouds with Mirantis-supplied deployment support services and developer training. It is available in three flavors, Lite, Basic, and Pro, to accommodate varying levels of expertise.

While many IT experts revel in rolling up their sleeves and poring over documentation, Mirantis CEO Adrian Ionel believes that many businesses won’t mind help from a company that has a few big deployments under its belt. In fact, he’s betting on it.
“During the past two years, Mirantis delivered more than 30 OpenStack deployment and integration projects for some of the most well-known early adopters of the OpenStack platform, such as NASA, Internap, WebEx, Gap, and PayPal,” said Ionel in a company statement.
Although two years may seem like a relatively short period of time, it’s roughly the same amount of time OpenStack has been shaking up the cloud market. During those two years, a bevy of IT companies, both big and small, have jumped onto the OpenStack bandwagon.
OpenStack supporters include AT&T, IBM and Red Hat. In a strong vote of confidence, HP launched its own OpenStack-based cloud services platform. Recently, startups like Piston and Metacloud have emerged to pump fresh new blood into the burgeoning open source cloud ecosystem.
Ultimately, the goal is to speed cloud deployments, said Ionel. “With DIY Assist for OpenStack, we are sharing our accumulated expertise with a broad group of early adopters in a manner that will help them create advanced OpenStack capabilities within their companies and fast-track their OpenStack deployments,” he stated.
Customers can also expect the company’s DIY Assist Services for OpenStack to conform to Mirantis’s strong opposition to proprietary platforms. “Vendor neutrality and openness is what makes OpenStack so appealing. Our mission at Mirantis is to accelerate adoption of the OpenStack platform without compromising its key appeal. DIY Assist is our next step in that mission,” said Mirantis co-founder and OpenStack Foundation board member Boris Renski.
