Computerworld: A new report from IDC predicts that Microsoft’s Windows Phone will overtake Apple’s iOS to become the number two mobile operating system by 2016. Currently, Apple’s iPhone has 20.5 percent of the worldwide smartphone market, while Windows Phone has only 5.2 percent. IDC forecasts that by 2016, iPhone will fall slightly to 19 percent market share while Windows Phone will skyrocket to 19.2 percent.

IDC believes Google’s Android will remain the top mobile platform through 2016. However, it says Android’s market share will likely drop from 61 percent in 2012 to 52.9 percent in 2016.
