Amazon Web Services has announced a new certification program for architects, systems administrators and developers who are familiar with its cloud computing services. In order to obtain the certificate, staffers must first pass a test.
Computerworld’s Mikael Ricknäs reported, “Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched a Global Certification Program, which will allow solutions architects, systems operations administrators, and developers to get proof of their cloud know-how. The new program has been designed to certify the technical skills and knowledge associated with ‘building secure and reliable cloud-based applications using AWS technology,’ Amazon said.”
TechCrunch’s Alex Williams added, “The first certification to be offered is the ‘AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate Level.’ The certificate is designed for solutions architects involved in the design and development of applications on AWS. Later this year AWS will offer certifications for Systems Operations (SysOps) administrators and developers.”
The Register quoted the AWS blog, which said, “Once you complete the certification requirements, you will receive an AWS Certified logo badge that you can use on your business cards and other professional collateral. This will help you to gain recognition and visibility for your AWS expertise.”
GigaOm’s Barb Darrow observed, “Older tech companies — Microsoft, IBM, VMware, Cisco Systems — have long relied on certifications as a way for people — either those inside IT shops or at third-party VARs and integrators (and those seeking jobs in either camp) — to show that they have what it takes to succeed working with specific technologies. As with those programs, AWS candidates must pass an exam to get their credentials. Testing will be administered by Kryterion.”
