PCWorld: According to the latest report from StatCounter, Google’s Chrome 15 is not the most popular browser in the world, with a global market share of 23.63 percent. For the first time, it edged out Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), which had 23.5 percent of the market. “Chrome 14 and 15 have been overtaking IE8 at weekends since the beginning of October,” said StatCounter CEO Aodhan Cullen. “It looks as if people [favored] Chrome on weekends at home, but office commercial use has now caught up.”

However, in the U.S., IE8 still tops Chrome 15. And if you lump together all of the various versions of the browsers, IE is the most popular brand by far, with 40.09 percent worldwide usage compared to Chrome’s 26.31 percent. Firefox is the third most popular browser brand with 25.07 percent of the market.
