BBC: As rioters continue to use social media for coordinating their assaults, Prime Minister David Cameron says the British government is considering whether it is “right and possible” to shut down access to those services in order to quell the violence. Specifically, law enforcement is looking at shutting down Twitter, Facebook and text messaging services like BlackBerry Messenger.

Civil liberties groups are predictably concerned about any possible ban, and some technology experts question whether such a ban would be possible.
