PCMag: The beleaguered BlackBerry maker RIM had more bad news for fans today: the company is postponing the release of the next version of the operating system for its PlayBook tablet, and when the OS does ship, it will not include a native version of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM). “As much as we’d love to have it in your hands today, we’ve made the difficult decision to wait to launch BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 until we are confident we have fully met the expectations of our developers, enterprise customers and end-users,” blogged RIM’s David J. Smith.
The company shipped 500,000 PlayBook tablets in the first quarter of availability, but just 200,000 in its second fiscal quarter, which ended in August.
