FOSS Patents: As part of the ongoing lawsuit about Android’s use of Java, Oracle has filed a request to depose Google CEO Larry Page and three other Googlers. Oracle claims that Page was involved in the licensing talks. In one notice, the judge in the case wrote that it “appears possible that early on Google recognized that it would infringe patents protecting at least part of Java, entered into negotiations with Sun [Microsystems] to obtain a license for use in Android, then abandoned the negotiations as too expensive, and pushed home with Android without any license at all.”

Page could provide testimony that might prove key in determining the value of damages in the case.
