InformationWeek: At the OpenWorld conference, CEO Larry Ellison announced a new infrastructure as a service (IaaS) offering for Java developers and those deploying Oracle Fusion applications in the cloud. The move was a complete reversal for Ellison who previously called the cloud nothing but “water vapor” and described cloud computing supporters as “idiotic.”
Ellison also used the speech as an opportunity to blast Salesforce.com. While he said that Oracle’s approach to the cloud would be “open and standards based,” he added, “The Salesforce.com cloud is kind of sticky. You can check in, but you can’t check out. It’s the roach motel of clouds.”
