InformationWeek: Oracle has unveiled its new Big Data Appliance, produced in partnership with Cloudera. The company announced that it was working on a Hadoop appliance in October, but few observers expected it to hit the market this soon. “Cloudera brings us a couple of very important missing pieces, including its management software and assistance for a deeper second- and third-tier level of support,” said Oracle’s George Lumpkin.

The Oracle Big Data Appliance will feature Cloudera’s distribution of Apache Hadoop, Cloudera Manager, an open-source distribution of R software and the Oracle NoSQL database. The hardware and bundled software will retail for $450,000, plus a 12 percent support fee.
