Mobile Data Traffic Doubled in Past 12 Months

GigaOm: A new report from mobile hardware vendor Ericsson says that mobile data traffic more than doubled between the second quarter of 2010 and the second quarter of 2011. Other key findings in the report include the following:

  • The average active smartphone user generates 1MB of data traffic per day.
  • High-end smartphones in the U.S. generate twice as much data traffic as similar smartphones in Europe and Asia.
  • The heaviest data users (the top 5 to 10 percent) spend an average of 40 minutes per day watching video on their smartphones.
