NetworkWorld: Both Gartner and IDC are reporting that during the third quarter Lenovo’s PC sales grew the fastest of any vendor, giving the company a 13.5 percent market share. That puts Lenovo ahead of Dell, which had an 11. 6 percent market share during the quarter. HP remained the largest PC vendor, growing shipments 5.3 percent, despite rumors that the company wanted to get out of the PC business.
Overall, PC shipments failed to meet analysts’ growth predictions. “For the moment, PCs have taken a backseat to a range of other devices competing for shrinking consumer and business budgets,” said IDC analyst Jay Chou.
