iPhone’s Siri Threatens Google, Schmidt Says

InformationWeek: Google chairman Eric Schmidt recently told the U.S. Senate antitrust subcommittee that the iPhone’s Siri voice assistant represented a competitive threat to Google’s search business. “Google has many strong competitors and we sometimes fail to anticipate the competitive threat posed by new methods of accessing information,” Schmidt said. “Apple’s Siri is a significant development–a voice-activated means of accessing answers through iPhones that demonstrates the innovations in search.”

However, observers note that while Siri may be a significant innovation, it’s not currently in a position to threaten Google’s dominance of the Web search market.
