At its annual Informum conference, enterprise software maker Infor unveiled updated interfaces for many of its most popular applications. In addition, it announced new cloud computing partnerships with IBM and Amazon.
NetworkWorld’s Chris Kanaracus reported, “Infor is hoping a new social collaboration tool, updated middleware and user interfaces, as well as options for cloud-based deployments, will help cement its place as one of the industry’s largest ERP (enterprise resource planning) vendors after SAP and Oracle. Infor CEO Charles Phillips, a former Oracle president, has sought to remake Infor’s image from that of a holding company for older applications, to one offering a modern technology platform and reinvigorated applications for the verticals and ‘micro-verticals’ it already served. To that end, Infor announced version 10x of its platform on Monday during the Inforum conference in Orlando. The release includes Infor’s ION middleware, HTML5-based user interfaces, ‘in-context analytics’ and a new social collaboration platform called Ming.le.”
InformationWeek quoted Phillips, who said, “We think the way the applications look and behave and the experience with those applications will be a deciding factor for the next generation of users, whether they’ll use these applications and who you’ll be able to hire.”
Darryl K. Taft with eWeek added, “IBM and Infor, a business software maker, have announced an agreement for Infor to offer its enterprise application software through IBM’s public, private and hybrid SmartCloud services. Infor offers enterprising software solutions for CRM, supply-chain management, enterprise asset management and more, which will now be available through IBM’s cloud offerings.”
And in a press release, Infor announced, “Infor, a leading provider of business application software serving more than 70,000 customers, today announced Infor Sky Vault a big data initiative that leverages Infor ION, micro-vertical expertise, and beautiful dashboards developed by Infor ION BI experts and designed by Hook & Loop, Infor’s Manhattan-based in-house design agency. Corporate data is fragmented across diverse commercial, legacy, and custom applications. Using ION, customers can extract transactions formatted in industry standard XML documents and send that normalized data to the cloud for further analytics, helping them obtain meaningful insight to drive faster, better business decisions. Recognizing these challenges, Infor is using Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enable customers to accelerate time to insight from various transactional data streams.”
