IDC: Tablet Sales Underwhelm in Q3, But Strong Holiday Season Expected

Computerworld: Market research firm IDC reports that manufacturers sold 18.1 million tablets in the third quarter, less than the 19.2 million tablets IDC had predicted. However, that was still a 260 percent year-over-year increase. Apple’s iPad continues to dominate the market with a 61.5 percent market share.

Fourth quarter tablets sales are expected to be stronger, with several new models becoming available. Due to increasing demand for the holiday season, IDC now predicts that manufacturers will sell 63.3 million units for the year. That’s an increase from its earlier forecast of 62.5 million units.
