Cnet: In an interview with Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt said that the next version of Android should debut in October or November. The release is code named ice cream sandwich and combines elements of the Honeycomb and Gingerbread versions of the mobile operating system.

A previous report on the topic said that Google wanted to release the update around the time of Apple’s iPhone 5 launch so that Android users coming off contract wouldn’t be “drooling over the iPhone 5.”
