The release is code named ice cream sandwich and combines elements of the Honeycomb and Gingerbread versions of the mobile operating system.
A previous report on the topic said that Google wanted to release the update around the time of Apple’s iPhone 5 launch so that Android users coming off contract wouldn’t be “drooling over the iPhone 5.”
