InfoWorld: For the first time in four years, IBM has announced a major upgrade to its flagship DB2 database software for Linux, Unix and Windows systems. According to the company, DB2 10 can cut storage space requirements up to 90 percent, and it also offers faster performance. New features include support for RDF semantic data models, faster backups, accelerated I/O and a “time travel” feature that allows programmers to query data from a specific point in time or to forecast trends.

IBM is also updating its InfoSphere data warehouse software. The company says InfoSphere 10 can execute queries 10 times faster than its predecessor, and it can communicate with Hadoop.

Both updates will become available for purchase on April 30.
