IBM Produces First ‘Brain Chips’

BBC News: Researchers at IBM say they have created a “cognitive computer,” which works much like the human brain. The SyNAPSE system uses two neurosynaptic computing chips, which are capable of “re-wiring” connections in order to learn new things. One of the chips in SyNAPSE has 262,144 of these programmable synapses, and the other has 65,636.

IBM’s Dharmendra Modha said that they were working on “reverse engineering the brain” in order to create chips capable of emotion, perception, sensation and cognition.
