Computerworld: Yahoo-spinoff Hortonworks has announced that it will release its first production-ready Hadoop distribution on June 15. Called the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), the big data tool will include the Pig scripting engine, the Hive data warehousing software, the HBase database, the Apache Ambari Hadoop monitoring and lifecycle management program, a metadata catalog based on Apache HCatalog, and Talend Open Studio. Hortonworks also announced a new partnership with VMware that will provide new monitoring and tools for running HDP in high-availability mode.

HDP will be available free of charge, but support subscriptions will begin at $12,500 per year for a ten-node cluster.
